Turmeric

Turmeric

Turmeric, is hotly debated as to whether it helps dogs with stiffness and arthritis or not. Whilst there is not enough scientific evidence in pets to confirm it either way, there is clear indications of benefits in humans alongside plenty of anecdotal evidence from owners on improvements in their dogs. We include it in our herb-blend along with NZ green-lipped mussel, so dogs get the benefit of all these joint-supportive ingredients together.

Turmeric is best absorbed with either black pepper or a healthy fat the active component of turmeric is curcumin which is both a potent antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory agent helping both to calm inflammation and soothe associated pain.

Turmeric is known to help with more than just joints however, studies have shown it can help with digestion, it supports the liver and in particular the digestion of fats. Turmeric may also support brain function and in particular the brain chemicals that have a protective effect on mood and behaviour. So whilst we know turmeric as a popular culinary spice in human foods, where it is recognised by its distinctive golden colour and bright flavour, knowledge of all its health properties and benefits is only starting to emerge.
